Two years after the unification of Vietnam, the establishment of Quy Nhon University of Education was set up under Decision No. 1842/QD dated December 21, 1977 of the Minister of Education. More than four years later, the Council of Ministers issued Decision 02/HDBT on July 13, 1981 established Quy Nhon University of Education. On 30/10/2003, Quy Nhon Pedagogical University was approved by the Prime Minister to make Decision No. 221/2003 / QD-TTg to change its name into Quy Nhon University with a view to turning it into a multidisciplinary training institution whose task is to make a positive contribution to the cause of education and training and the socio-economic development of the provinces of the South Central Coast, the Central Highlands and the whole country, which serves the cause of socialism-building and Fatherland-defending.
Over the past 40 years, Quy Nhon University has grown steadily, in terms of scope, level, quality of training, as well as the quantity and quality of teaching staff. Currently, the University has 16 faculties with 46 disciplines including pedagogical disciplines, natural sciences, social sciences and humanities, economics-finance, engineering and technology, with approximately 13,000 full-time students. The University has been offering 20 postgraduate programs, consisting of 17 master’s and 3 doctoral ones with more than 1,000 graduate students. In addition, the University offers undergraduate, postgraduate and Vietnamese language training for hundreds of Laotian students from some provinces such as Attapeu, Champasak, Salavan and Sekon. Quy Nhon University has become a prestigious training institution.
The University’s staff have also grown rapidlyin both size and quality. At present, the University has a staff of 772 consisting of 546 lecturers with 33 professors, PGS; 142 doctoral degree holders; 359 master’s degree holders; 140 postgraduate students, who are studying at training institutions both at home and abroad. This is a plentiful human resource, serving as a solid foundation meeting the requirements of fundamental and comprehensive reform of higher education in the direction of standardization, modernization and international integration.
The University’s work of scientific research is increasingly promoted; The number of lecturers participating in scientific research has increased. Especially, 6 basic research groups in the fields of mathematics and chemistry have been set up. Over the past few years, a lot of high-quality research products, especially in the field of basic research have been created. In the academic year 2017-2018, there are 02 national-level key research themes, 18 Nafosted projects, 26 research projects, ministry- and provincial level tasks, 108 university-level research studies; 446 articles, scientific works have been published in domestic and foreign journals, of which 56 articles published in journals indexed in SCI, SCIE, SSCI, A & HCI, ESCI. Also, the University has holds nine national and international scientific conferences.
In addition, considerable attention has been paid to scientific activities conducted by the University’s students and postgraduale students. The achievements recorded in this field were impressive. In the academic year 2017-2018, 99 research projects were implemented by the students; of which 05 projects were presented with the Ministry-level Awards. Many postgraduate students’ scientific conferences were organized successfully.
Over the past 40 years, the University has trained nearly 90,000 full-time and part-time students, more than 2,500 postgraduate students, domestic and foreign graduates; university and postgraduate education; fostering and granting certificates of Vietnamese program for hundreds of Laotian students. A lot of Quy Nhon graduates have held important positions at central and local levels. With the training of tens of thousands of graduates from different fields, Quy Nhon University has made a great contribution to the supply of high-quality human resources to meet the demand for the socio-economic development of the South Central region, the Central Highlands and the whole country, contributing to the industrialization and modernization of the country.
With its outstanding achievements, the University was honored to be awarded the Third-Class Labor Medal (1992), the Second-Class Labor Medal (1997) and the First-Class Labor Medal (2002), the Third-Class Independence Medal (2007). The University’s Labour Union was awarded the Third-Class Labor Medal (1997) and the Second-Class Medal (2007). The University’s Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union was awarded the Third-Class Labor Medal (1999) by the State President. In addition, the University, the Labor Union and the Youth Union have also been awarded many emulation flags and certificates of merit at all levels, etc. These prestigious awards affirm the great maturity and the comprehensive and sustainable development of the University.
Over the past 40 years, Quy Nhon University has constantly strived to overcome difficulties and challenges to become one of the high-quality multi-disciplinary universities, one of the centers for culture and education, research, application of science and technology in the South Central region and the Central Highlands.
The great achievements that the University has recorded are the crystallization of the efforts and dedication of the generations of its rectors, lectures, staff, students and postgraduate students. This is also the result of the attention to the University by the Party and State leaders, the timely and effective guidance given by the Ministry of Education and Training, the provincial Party Committee, the People's Committee of Binh Dinh Province, the support from the relevant ministries, branches, local authorities in the region and the whole country as well as other universities, colleges, education and training establishments, both at home and abroad, especially the support and trust given by the people in the South Central provinces, the Central Highlands and the whole country.
Entering new phases with new challenges and opportunities, promoting the achievements recorded, Quy Nhon University is determined to overcome difficulties and obstacles, continue to build and develop sustainably to become one of the leading research-oriented universities in Central Vietnam and the Central Highlands, to make a big contribution to the socio-economic development of the localities in the region and the cause of the country's modernization, modernization and international integration.
