A prestigious journal of Singapore, Asian Scientist Magazine selected Nguyen Sum based on his winning the Ta Quang Buu Award, held annually by the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology.
Professor Phan Thanh Son Nam, Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, Polytechnic University (National University of Ho Chi Minh City) is the lead author of the paper "Synthesis of propargylamine from N-methylaniline and lead alkyne via methylation pathway and Direct Activation Bonding with Cu2 (BDC)2(DABCO) as catalysts".
The study dealt with the application of organic metal-framed materials (MOFs) as a catalyst for the chemical reaction of propargylamine organic compounds. This led to the discovery of a metabolite of N-methionylate.
Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Sum works at Quy Nhon University (Vietnam). His work on "Peterson's Hit Problem, Advances in Mathematics, published in Vol. 274, 432-489" is regared as remarkable when dealing with the special case of the "hit" hypothesis proposed by American mathematician Frank Peterson more than 30 years ago. The work was completed entirely in the country by the only author, Assoc. Dr. Nguyen Sum.
This is the third year the Asian Scientist Magazine has published the list of top 100 scientists in Asia. In 2016, Vietnam’s 2 female scientists, Dr. Tran Lien Ha Phuong (International University - Vietnam National University) and Dr. Dang Thi Oanh (University of Information Technology - Thai Nguyen University). were honoured to have their names released on this list. In 2017, Assoc. Prof Le Thi Kim Phung (Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology), an experst in the field of agricultural science.
was also among the honorees on this list. (Vnexpress.net)
