NSD - On December 5, the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology held a conference to summarize the national science and technology program "Science and technology for the socio-economic development of the Central Highlands in the inter-regional linkage and international integration” for the 2016-2020 period.
The 2016-2020 Central Highlands Program is an interdisciplinary general science program of natural science and technology, disaster prevention, social science and national security. The program has achieved many main results such as (1) Providing scientific and technological solutions for regional linkage and international integration; (2) Implementing the application and development of advanced technologies available in the 2011 - 2015 period into the reality of agricultural - forestry - industrial production and services in the Central Highlands; (3) Developing solutions for integrated management of natural resources and conservation of specific ecosystems in the Central Highlands; (4) Deploying a number of projects, applying advanced technology models suitable to the conditions of the Central Highlands; (5) Providing solutions to promote the internal resources of science and technology in the Central Highlands.
Within the framework of the program, Quy Nhon University (QNU) has participated in conducting a research with the topic "Researching a model of inter-regional organization of the Central Highlands - South Central region according to river basins for sustainable development of agriculture and forestry" by Dr. Nguyen Huu Xuan, the project leader. The attendees at the conference, on the side of the agency in charge of the research project included Assoc.Prof.Dr. Do Ngoc My, Rector of QNU, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Tien Trung, Head of Science, Technology and International Cooperation Department.
The project was carried out with the following objectives: To assess the current status of natural resources, environment - natural disasters, economy - society and the current situation of agro-forestry models of the two Ba and Kon river basins and to develop an inter-regional organizational model of the Central Highlands - South Central region according to river basins associated with agricultural products.
Currently, the project has built a complete set of geographic databases on natural conditions, environmental resources, and socio-economics to meet the requirements of updating and convenient exploitation for the inter-regional territory of the Central Highlands - South Central Coast according to the Ba and Kon river basins in order to sustainably develop agro-forestry based on the agricultural product value chain. At the same time, the research group has had 18 scientific works published, including 4 scientific articles published in journals with SCOPUS and SCI indexes, 2 scientific articles published in National and Specialized Science Journals, 12 articles published on the proceedings of national and international conferences and seminars. In addition, the research group also acts as a supervisor for 1 PhD student of Natural Geography and 13 MA students.
The main scientific research results of the topic are shown through specific products as follows:
Developing 2 models of inter-regional organization of the Central Highlands - South Central region in the Ba and Kon river basins associated with the value chain of timber from planted forests and sugar cane.
Proposing institutional solutions and implementing 2 models of inter-regional territorial organization in the Central Highlands - South Central Coast in the Ba and Kon river basins associated with the value chain of timber from planted forests and sugar cane.
With the above results, Dr. Nguyen Huu Xuan and the research team have completed the project and created useful and practical products. In recent times, QNU has always paid considerable attention to scientific research associated with practice. QNU’s scientific research has been serving to improve the quality of comprehensive training in the direction of combining teaching, learning, applying scientific knowledge to practice with a view to meeting the human resource requirements of society.
