1.1. An brief history of the Department of Postgraduate Training
The Department of Postgraduate Training, formerly the Postgraduate Department, was established in 2009 under the Decision of the Recror of Quy Nhon University. Previously, the task of managing post-graduate training was assigned to the Department of Scientific Research (1993-1998), the Department of Scientific and Postgraduate Management (1998-2004) and the Department of Undergraduate and Postgraduate Training (2004-2009) respectively.
From its foundation to March 2011, the Department had a staff of 4, consisting of:
01 Department head: Dr. Mai Quy Nam
01 Deputy Head: Dr. Mai Xuan Mien
02 employees: Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam, MA and Tran Quoc Cuong, MA
On March 2011, Dr. Mai Xuan Mien was appointed by the University as Head of the Department of Administrative Affairs. After that, the Department was provided with another employee, ruong Thi Ngoc. In August 2017, Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam retired.
Dr. Mai Quy Nam held the position of Head of the Department from its foundation to March 2015. Since April 2015, the position of Head of Department has been held by Dr. Le Kim Chung. To complete the organizational structure, November 2015, Dr. Le Cong Trinh was appointed as Deputy Head of the Department.

Over the past 10 years, despite having a limited number of members, the Postgraduate Training Department has always been a united team, striving to overcome all difficulties to successfully complete all assigned tasks, which helps contribute greatly to enhancing the prestige of Quy Nhon University.
2. Postgraduate training process
In 1993, Quy Nhon University cooperated with the University of Natural Sciences - Hanoi National University to run a master's program in Primary Mathematics.
In 1998, the University was officially authorized by the Ministry of Education and Training to run a master's program in Primary Mathematics.
From 2000 to 2005, the University was allowed to administer master's programs in Mathematics, Calculus, Algebra and Number Theory, Vietnamese History, Vietnamese Literature, Experimental Biology, and Educational Management.
In 2012, the University was allowed to train 05 more master's programs, consisting of Accounting, Computer Science, Chemistry and Physics, English Language and Linguistics.
In 2013, the University continued to be permitted by the Ministry of Education and Training to administer a master's program in Electrical Engineering, and for the first time, the University was authorized by the Ministry of Education and Training to administer 2 doctoral programs: Algebra and Number Theory, Analytic Math.
In 2016, the University continued to be allowed by the Ministry of Education and Training to train 04 more master's programs: Natural Geography, Telecommunications Engineering, Inorganic Chemistry and Solid Physics and 01 more doctoral program: Theoretical Chemistry and Physiochemistry.
Currently, Quy Nhon University offers 03 doctoral and 17 master’s programs as follows:

In addition, the University is completing some projects in which the University asks the Ministry of Education and Training for permission to run 3 master’s programs: Politics, Economic Management, and Business Administration. These programrs are expected to begin recruitment in 2019.
In addition to offering postgraduate programs, Quy Nhon University offered master’s programs in cooperation with some other institutions. Specifically, in 2011, Quy Nhon University cooperated with Dalat University in running the Educational Management master’s program, with the Southern Economic and Technical College (Dak Nong) in running the application-oriented Educational Management master’s program in 2017. In addition, in 2014, the University also cooperated with Gia Lai Vocational School of Culture and Arts and Gia Lai Vocational College in offering some postgraduate diploma training courses.
In 2018, Quy Nhon University coordinated with some provinces in the South Central region and Central Highlands in recruiting postgraduate students for 17 application-oriented master’s programs which the University currently offered, first in the provinces of Quang Ngai, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Gia Lai, Dak Nong, Lam Dong.
- Besides some programs administered by Quy Nhon University, since 2010, the University has cooperated with a number of universities in Vietnam in running master's programs. Specifically, the University has cooperated with Danang University in administering 7 master's programs: Business Administration, Finance - Banking, Accounting, Computer Science, Grid and Electrical System, Development Economics, Philosophy.
In 2015, Quy Nhon University cooperated with Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics in running the Public Management master’s program. In 2016, the University cooperated with Danang University in running the Water Construction Engineering master’s program, with University of Economics - Law, Ho Chi Minh City National University in running 2 master’s programs: Economic Law, Civil Law and Civil Procedure. In 2017, Quy Nhon University cooperated with the University of Natural Sciences - Hanoi National University in running the Land Management master's program.
3. Some outstanding achievements
- Giving advice and strictly implementing the regulations issued by the Ministry of Education and Training on master’s and doctoral training;
- Stricly administering MA and doctoral entrance exams as stipulated by the regulations;
- Properly conducting and managing the process and quality of the training;
- Carrying out the conversion of credit-based traing method and the reform of the program content and assessment methods to improve the capacity of learners;
- Constantly increasing study fields, training scale and training quality;
- Training master's level human resources for Binh Dinh province in coordination with Da Nang University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics. Ho Chi Minh, University of Economics - Law;
- Running some application-oriented master's programs in coordination with some provinces in the South Central region and Central Highlands regions.
4. Goals and orientations for postgraduate training
4.1. Goals
Creating fundamental changes in the quality, efficiency and scale of postgraduate training. Expanding the training scale and new training majors/ study fields appropriately. Synchronously and effectively innovating the program content, teaching and learning methods, testing and evaluation, management of training process to improve the quality of training to meet high-quality human resources serving the socio-economic development of the locality, the region and the whole country. The University strives to 2020 to recruit 1,000 to 1,200 postgraduate students and about 2000 postgraduate students by 2030.
4.2. Main orientations
Firstly, expanding the appropriate majors / study fields, increasing the scale of training appropriately to enhance the position of postgraduate training and prestige of the University.
Secondly, innovating training contents and programs; forms and methods of teaching, testing and evaluating training results in the direction of developing learners' capabilities.
Thirdly, continuing to renovate the organization and management of training; focusing on quality management, training results.
Fourthly, improving the quality of lecturers and educational managers to meet the requirements of improving the quality of training.
Fifthly, boosting investment in facilities, building areas reserved for post-graduate training; upgrading teaching and learning equipment, laboratories and learning resources for teaching, learning and research of lecturers and students.
Sixth, improving the coordination of post-graduate training with domestic and foreign training institutions to improve the quality of postgraduate training of the University and meet the requirements of high-quality human resources for the locality and the region.
